Marmoset Music has the following opportunities available for internships (ongoing). All internships are available for academic credit at participating post-secondary education institutions. Most internships are un-paid and are short term in duration (6-12 months). Each internship provides a unique opportunity for insight, education, and hands-on experience at the intersection of Portland's independent music community, pop culture, and the global entertainment and advertising industries. Marmoset works directly with some of the most talented independent artists and bands on the planet, as well as some of the most innovative and accomplished global advertising agencies, brands, and creatives. We work hard. Really hard. However, we also play hard and provide a fun and creative environment with fringe benefits like parties, special events, and daily foosball tournaments.
Prerequisites for all opportunities include an interest and passion in the following areas: music production and music licensing, art, advertising and branding, pop culture, independent music, Portland's quirky and crafty DIY community...and to a lesser degree, The Portland Trailblazers and The Portland Timbers and foosball. Education and experience in creative disciplines, music, branding, advertising, and social media are a BIG plus. Requirements include an ability to regularly work your ass of with little or no praise, occasionally sacrifice your evenings and weekends to make a deadline, and do whatever is asked of you - even making coffee, running errands, and taking out the trash.
1. Research + Strategy Internship. Primary focus includes learning and helping with business development and new business strategies. Insight, understanding and experience working with advertising and branding agencies is a plus. Must be good with spreadsheets and databases, tracking and reporting. Must value, understand and have experience with social media and related digital tools. Must have a good understanding of relationship management in the business sense. Must have a strong attention to detail, be highly organized, proactive and self motivated. Must be able to work well independently with little or no direction and minimal supervision. Must be able to manage intense, crazy timelines while remaining cool and calm. A good sense of humor and a highly adaptable personality are important.
2. Music Licensing + Artist Relations Internship. Primary focus includes helping interface with artists to acquire and update new material; communicate important updates and news; help acquire and retain necessary forms and paperwork, assist with regular organization and updates of our internal systems and processes. Be able to quickly learn and understand the basics of music licensing. Occasionally help out with general marketing and promotions. Help the team scout new talent as needed. Must have a strong attention to detail, be highly organized, proactive and self motivated. Must be able to work well independently with little or no direction and minimal supervision. Must be able to manage intense, crazy timelines while remaining cool and calm. A good sense of humor and a highly adaptable personality are important.
3. Creative Writing + Social Media Internship. Primary focus includes collaborating with others to write, edit and publish articles, news, and features on the Marmoset blog, Facebook, and Twitter. Experience with WordPress, blogging, writing music reviews, publishing interviews, etc is a plus. Experience in creative writing, English, and/or journalism is a big plus. Must be able to generate your own ideas, be an expert in English, spelling and grammar, and be able to quickly learn and understand the voice of our agency and brand. Must have a strong attention to detail, be highly organized, proactive and self motivated. Must be able to work well independently with little or no direction and minimal supervision. Must be able to manage intense, crazy timelines while remaining cool and calm. A good sense of humor and a highly adaptable personality are important. 4. Creative Designer Internship. Primary focus includes creative development, graphic design, and general artwork needs. Projects include developing collateral materials, artwork and imagery for agency marketing and branding. Experience in laying out print projects such as booklets, CD and album artwork, t-shirts, websites, and other promotional assets is helpful. Must have a strong attention to detail, be highly organized, proactive and self motivated. Must be able to work well independently with little or no direction and minimal supervision. Must be able to manage intense, crazy timelines while remaining cool and calm. A good sense of humor and a highly adaptable personality are important.
